Feb. 21, 2018
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s golf standout Ainhoa Olarra has been tabbed the SEC Women’s Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday afternoon. The accolade marks the first career weekly conference honor for the senior from San Sebastian, Spain.
Olarra notched her first collegiate individual victory at the 2018 Florida State Match-Up (Feb. 9-10), claiming a two-shot win with a 54-hole mark of 206 (-10). The 2017 Spanish Amateur Golfer of the Year shot par or better in each round, including a career-low 66 (-6) on day one.
Her showing at the Florida State Match-Up marked the third-best three-round mark in program history.
Olarra has posted a top-five finish in each of her last three events in a stretch that dates back to the fall. She has placed inside the top 25 in 11 of her last 12 tournaments since 2017, and her 73.66 career stroke average ranks second in school history.
The No. 8 Gamecocks resume their spring slate next month when they host the 2018 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The 54-hole event, which takes place March 2-4, will again be contested at Long Cove Club.
