Rohrabacher Named To 2018 SEC Community Service Team

April 17, 2018

SEC Community Service Team

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina junior Rachel Rohrabacher was named to the 2018 SEC Women’s Tennis Community Service Team, the leagued announced Tuesday.

Rohrabacher leads the Gamecocks in community service hours this season. She has volunteered at several places around Columbia, including speaking to students at Heathwood Hall and St. Andrews Middle School, and volunteering at a Babcock Charity Event and Meals on Wheels.

Rohrabacher is one of the women’s tennis representatives on South Carolina’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and has been an integral part of the marketing committee within SAAC. Rohrabacher and the marketing committee have worked hard this year to help create a greater sense of community amongst student-athletes through social media campaigns. Rohrabacher has typically been the one to organize team-specific volunteer events for South Carolina women’s tennis, and has proven herself as a leader amongst her peers.

This award is the second for Rohrabacher, who was named to the 2017 SEC Women’s Tennis Community Service Team.

Along with serving as a leader in the community, Rohrabacher has excelled on the court this season. She finished the regular season with an 11-1 singles record (7-1 SEC), including the first “perfect” win of her career — a 6-0, 6-0 win over LSU’s Ashton Rabalais on March 10. She leads the Gamecocks with an .875 winning percentage in SEC singles play and started dual match play at 11-0 in singles, with 10 of those 11 wins being in straight sets.

In doubles, Rohrabacher went 11-2 in the regular season (5-1 SEC) with partner Megan Davies in the No. 3 lineup spot.

Rohrabacher and the Gamecocks will play as the three-seed in the 2018 SEC Tournament at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. Their first match takes place at 12 p.m. ET on Friday against the winner of Auburn and the winner of the first-round match between Missouri and Arkansas.
