Baseball Bests Missouri on Senior Day at Founders Park

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Junior Adam Hill struck out eight in seven innings and the University of South Carolina baseball team scored a pair of runs in three separate innings in a 6-3 win over Missouri Saturday afternoon (May 12) at Founders Park. The win clinched a berth in the SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Ala.
Hill tied a season high with his seven innings pitched. He allowed four hits and did not give up a run to improve to 6-5 on the year.
Justin Row went 3-for-3 with a home run on Senior Day at the ballpark. LT Tolbert added a pair of hits and drove in two while Carlos Cortes scored two runs.
The Gamecocks scored a pair in the first. Noah Campbell led off with a single and moved to third on Cortes’ double. Both runners scored on groundouts. Carolina put up two more runs in the fourth. Row led off the frame with a solo home run. Hunter Taylor walked with one out and went to third on a bunt single from Jacob Olson. Matt Williams‘ squeeze bunt scored Taylor, making it 4-0.
There was a 61-minute rain delay in the bottom of the fourth. Hill came back and allowed just one hit in the final three innings. Carolina put up its final two runs in the seventh on Tolbert’s two-run double to left.
Missouri scored three times in the eighth, including a solo home run from Brian Sharp, but Sawyer Bridges struck out a pair in the ninth to preserve the win.
GAMECHANGER
Adam Hill came out of the weather delay and allowed just one hit in the next three innings. Hill had eight strikeouts in seven innings pitched to earn the win.
KEY STAT
Justin Row had three more hits in a conference game and now is hitting .390 with eight doubles and two home runs in SEC contests.
NOTABLE
- Carolina honored its five seniors (Jonah Bride, Justin Row, Madison Stokes, Hunter Taylor and Matt Williams) along with bullpen catcher John Panchella and manager Ross Jeffries before today’s game.
- Carolina clinched a berth in the SEC Tournament after its win. The Gamecocks will find out their seed next Saturday after the conclusion of the regular season.
- Carolina is now 23-13 when hitting at least one home run in a game.
- There was a 61-minute weather delay with two out in the bottom of the fourth inning.
