Three Gamecocks Named To All-Region Teams

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina softball had three players claim spots on National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Southeast Region teams, it was announced today. Alyssa VanDerveer was named to the first team while Kenzi Maguire and Cayla Drotar earned spots on the second team.

This is the first time all three have been named to NFCA All-Region teams at Carolina, while the three overall selections is the most for the Gamecocks since 1999. VanDerveer is the first Gamecock to earn first-team honors since Alaynie Page in 2015.

During the regular season, VanDerveer hit .293 with a team-best 14 home runs and an impressive .605 slugging percentage.

Maguire hit .344 with 18 extra-base hits and a .444 on-base percentage. She notably hit the go-ahead home run in the bottom of the sixth to lead the Gamecocks to a 5-3 win over Texas A&M in College Station in the series finale.

Drotar shined in the circle and at the plate, posting a 20-5 record with a 2.13 ERA to go along with her .281 batting average and eight home runs.

Carolina is back in action this weekend, playing host to the Columbia Regional. Regional actions begins Friday for the Gamecocks at 7:30 PM ET on ESPN3 against UNCG.
