CoSIDA Academic All-America District 4 Team
COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina women’s tennis senior Hadley Berg was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 First Team, it was announced Thursday.
Berg is the first South Carolina women’s tennis player to be named to the Academic All-America District team since Jennifer Radman made the CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First Team in 2002.
With the honor, Berg has the chance of being named to the Academic All-America team and joining Helen Crook (1994) as the only Gamecocks to receive the honor. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot. First- and Second-Team All-America honorees will be announced in June. Berg is one of three SEC Division I tennis players to be named to the District 4 Team.
The team captain graduated from South Carolina this month with a double major in management and marketing. Along with holding a 3.60 GPA, Berg took graduate classes this semester as part of the accelerated Master of Mass Communications program.
Berg is a seven-time member of the Athletic Department Honor Roll, registering a 3.0 GPA or higher in every semester she’s been at the University of South Carolina (Fall 2014, Spring 2015, Fall 2015, Spring 2016, Fall 2016, Spring 2017 and Fall 2017). She is a six-time member of the Dean’s List (Fall 2014, Spring 2015, Spring 2016, Fall 2016, Spring 2017 and Fall 2017). Additionally, Berg is an active member of the University of South Carolina Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and organizes and leads the team in student-athlete-run practices and team meetings on a frequent basis.
In addition to excelling in the classroom, Berg was a force on the court for the Gamecocks in their historic 2018 season. She holds the highest singles ranking on the team at No. 34 in the nation, and was named to the All-SEC First Team for the first time in her career. She received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament Singles Championships for the first time in her career and earned the highest singles ranking of her career at No. 29 from March 6-13, 2018.
Berg’s 25-7 singles record this season has her at 99-34 overall, one win shy of 100 on her career, with a winning percentage of .744 that ranks seventh in school history. Her highest-ranked singles win of the year came at No. 7 Ole Miss on March 3 when she defeated No. 16 SEC Player of the Year Arianne Hartono in straight sets at No. 1 singles. Berg finished the 2018 season with a 23-11 overall doubles record, recording a 13-6 singles record (7-3 SEC) and 14-5 doubles record (6-2 SEC) in dual match play.
