May 30, 2018

SEC COMMUNITY SERVICE TEAM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of South Carolina track & field student-athletes Matt Froschauer and Leah Ford were named to the 2018 SEC Community Service Team, the league office announced Wednesday.

Both Froschauer on the men’s side and Ford on the women’s squad led their respective teams in community service hours this season. Froschauer gave his time to projects throughout the Columbia community, including two volunteer days with Habitat for Humanity. He also worked with youth athletes at the university’s Fan Appreciation Day.

On the track, the Union, Ky., native was Carolina’s top performer in the 60m and 110m hurdles, including a finals berth indoors at the Columbia Challenge.

Ford also worked with Habitat for Humanity, and she served local youth by running the track & field station at Carolina’s Boy Scout clinic. The three-time SEC Honor Roll selection also built shelves for the local Gamecock Pantry on Service Saturday.

Ford, a native of Mason, Ohio, was one of Carolina’s top distance runners in 2018. She earned three top-10 finishes during the outdoor season, including two strong performances in the 5000m.
