2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships — Day #4

EUGENE, Ore. – The 2018 season came to a close Saturday for the University of South Carolina track & field team as Lissa Labiche earned second-team All-America status in the high jump. Labiche tied for 12th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, jumping 1.73m (5-8).

The Gamecocks finished the women’s NCAA Championships team standings in 56th place, scoring two points. In the men’s competition, which ended Friday, Carolina placed 35th with eight points.

Labiche entered the event on the opening height, clearing 1.73m on her first try. She was unable to clear 1.78m, however, and she finished in a five-way tie for 12th.

The All-America finish is the second of the season for Labiche, who placed 14th in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. In her first collegiate season, the Mahe, Seychelles, native won the silver medal at the SEC Indoor Championships and earned the title at the Penn Relays.

Labiche’s run ends another strong week for the Gamecocks in Eugene, including six All-America results. Josh Awotunde led the way with a silver-medal finish in the men’s shot put, while Rougui Sow added a first-team All-America finish in the women’s long jump. Yann Randrianasolo (men’s long jump), Ncincilili Titi (men’s 200m) and the women’s 4x100m relay quartet of Maiya Dendy, Stephanie Davis, Milan Parks and Makyla Stanley earned second-team status.

“Lissa has two more years of eligibility, and that’s exciting. We just think about all the returners on our team that are young. Our women’s 4x400m relay is only losing Precious (Holmes). Our 4×1 loses nobody. Our quarter-miler (Aliyah Abrams) is back. Our long jumpers (Rougui Sow and Yann Randrianasolo) are back. The future is so bright. We have our new indoor facility, which gives our kids another enthusiastic boost, and we’re adding on a great recruiting class. Things look really bright for the Gamecocks.”- Head Coach Curtis Frye
