Steve Fink assumed the duties as director of athletics media relations at the University of South Carolina on July 18, 2005, after spending the previous five years in a similar capacity at TCU. He was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director/Media Relations on March 1, 2012, and then renamed the department Athletics Communications and Public Relations in July 2017. He oversees the publicity efforts for the school’s 21 intercollegiate sports and is the primary contact for South Carolina Football.

Since his arrival in Columbia, Fink has helped eight Gamecock football players garner first-team All-America accolades (Ko Simpson, Eric Norwood, Alshon Jeffery, Melvin Ingram, Jadeveon Clowney (twice), Kelcy Quarles, and A.J. Cann). He has also publicized the National Freshman of the Year (Marcus Lattimore – 2010) and the Ted Hendricks Award winner (Jadeveon Clowney – 2012).

While at TCU, Fink coordinated the publicity efforts for the school’s 19 intercollegiate athletic teams and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the media relations department. In addition, he served as the primary media contact for football, track & field and cross country. Under his public relations supervision, TCU captured 25 conference titles in five years.

Fink came to Fort Worth after serving as the media contact for the Kansas City Royals for over 12 years. He was the media director of the Royals when George Brett was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. Prior to his stint with the Royals, Fink served as director of public relations for the Denver Zephyrs, a Triple-A baseball club, from 1986 to 1987. Fink served as assistant sports information director at the University of Colorado from 1984 to 1986, coordinating all media responsibilities for the Buffaloes’ men’s basketball team, while also serving as primary media contact for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Fink has produced several publications that have received national recognition, both at South Carolina and TCU. His 2009 South Carolina football media guide was honored as “Best in the Nation.” He was a 2005 recipient of the Scoop Hudgins Outstanding SID Award for his performance in football.

Fink earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1982 and received his master’s degree in athletic administration from Western Illinois University in 1984. He and his wife, Charlene, have two children: Lauren, a 2013 University of South Carolina graduate, who is a P.E. teacher at Pontiac (S.C.) Elementary School and head varsity volleyball coach at Ridge View High School; and Ryan, who enlisted in the Navy and is stationed aboard the USS Alabama, working out of the Naval Submarine Base in Bangor, Washington.

He is a member of CoSIDA, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
