Berson adds transfer, Kyle Gurrieri, to 2018 team

July 5, 2018

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina men’s soccer announced the addition of transfer midfielder Kyle Gurrieri to its roster for the upcoming 2018 season on Thursday. Gurrieri has been playing this summer for the Ocean City Nor’easters of the Premier Development League.

“Kyle will help strengthen us in the center of the midfield,” said head coach Mark Berson. “He is technically sound and he can open up the field with his passing. He is a tough guy who competes well. He has come out of a great environment in New Jersey and with the USMNT U17 team.”

Gurrieri played one season at Syracuse in 2016 before heading overseas to play in Sweden in 2017. He played in six matches making one start for the Orange, who advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

The Totowa, N.J., native was a heralded recruit in high school, ranked as the No. 31 player in the country by College Soccer News. He was a 2015 NSCAA All-American as a senior. Gurrieri also spent time in the U.S. National Team Residency program in Bradenton, Fla., playing on the U14, U15 and U17 U.S. National Teams.
