Pelaez Ready for European Ladies Amateur Championships

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina rising junior Ana Pelaez of Malaga, Spain is set to begin the European Amateur Championships this week at Penati Golf Resort in Slovakia.
The four day event will begin tonight at 12:00 a.m. ET with 18 holes of stroke play. After three rounds, the field will be cut to 60 players, including ties, for a final fourth round.
Pelaez competed in each of Carolina’s 10 tournaments during the 2017-18 season and ranked fourth on the team in scoring average at 74.07. Her best 2018 finish at the 2018 Florida State Match-Up after a 15th place finish with a 54-hole score of 216. She was undefeated in match-play at the SEC Championships.
Prior to South Carolina, Pelaez saw much success back home in Spain. She was the 2015 ANNIKA Invitational Europe Individual Champion, and led her Spanish National Team to a European Girls’ Team Championship title in the Czech Republic in 2015.
The event, which has been ranked in the global top-5 for field strength (WAGR) for the last 10 years, has featured some big names in the world of golf. Three major champions have claimed bronze medals in the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship. The course will play to a 72 par, and is in total 6,230 meters and opened in August of 2013.
