Uwadia to Compete in North & South Amateur
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s golf rising junior Anita Uwadia is set to compete at the 116th North & South Women’s Amateur Championship this week at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C.
The five-day event features 90 players and gets underway Mon., July 9, with 18 holes of stroke play. Following Tuesday’s final stroke-play round, the field will be cut to a 32-golfer match-play bracket.
The round of 32 is set for Wednesday morning before 16 golfers battle for a spot in the quarterfinals that afternoon. Thursday features the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, and the championship match will be contested on Friday.
Former Gamecock Katelyn Dambaugh earned runner-up honors at the North & South Amateur in 2016, while current Carolina golfer Lois Kaye Go advanced to the Round of 16 at Pinehurst No. 2 a year ago.
Uwadia appeared in each of Carolina’s 10 tournaments last season as a sophomore. The Newcastle, United Kingdom, native was one of four Gamecocks to notch double-digit rounds of par or better, and she ranked third on the team with three top-20 showings. Uwadia, who posted a 74.24 stroke average in her sophomore campaign, boasted her best finish of the season at the 2018 Florida State Match-Up after sharing 12th-place honors with a 54-hole mark of 215 (-1).
First-round action from Pinehurst No. 2 gets underway at 7 a.m. ET Monday. Fans can follow South Carolina women’s golf on Twitter (@GamecockWGolf) for updates throughout the North & South Amateur, and live scoring of the event is also available.
