Gamecock legend earns first continental crown

ASABA, Nigeria — University of South Carolina graduate Ncincilili Titi added a huge trophy to his post-collegiate resume Sunday as he captured the 200m title at the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships. The senior continental title is the first for the Butterworth, South Africa, native.

Titi dominated the 200m final Sunday at Asaba Township Stadium, posting a winning time of 20.46 in difficult conditions. He won the race by .14 over Nigeria’s Divine Oduduru, the 2018 NCAA 200m champion, and South African teammate Luxolo Adams.

Titi easily qualified for the 200m final when he won his qualifying heat Saturday with a time of 20.98.

An eight-time All-American in his time with the Gamecocks, Titi ended his collegiate career in 2018 with his finest season yet. He finished fifth at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships and set the Carolina program record in the outdoor 200, at 20.00.

Titi’s gold medal was one of nine earned by South Africa at the 2018 African Championships. The nation led the competition with 30 medals overall.
