Gamecocks boast highest GPA in Conference USA in 2017-18
Sixth time Carolina has accomplished the feat since 2005.
IRVING, Texas — South Carolina men’s soccer continued its long-standing tradition of success in the classroom last season, earning the highest GPA in Conference USA for the second consecutive year the league office announced this week.
The Gamecocks posted a 3.339 Team GPA for the 2017-18 academic year, marking the ninth straight time with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Twenty-two student-athletes were named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll this season, six earned Academic Medals (3.75 or higher GPA) and 23 were named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Since joining the league in 2005, this marks the sixth time (2008-09, 09-10, 11-12 , 12-13, 16-17 and 17-18) the Gamecocks have led C-USA men’s soccer in team GPA.
United Soccer Coaches honors programs with a minimum 3.0 GPA for the year with its Team Academic Award. South Carolina has garnered this recognition on 12 occasions: 1999, 2001, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Twice, the Gamecocks have had the best GPA in the country, in 2010 and 2013.
Three players on last year’s team were named to the President’s List (4.0 GPA), 13 to the Dean’s List (3.5 GPA, 3.25 freshman GPA) and 20 to the AD Honor Roll (3.0 GPA or higher).
The Gamecocks face Gardner-Webb at Stone Stadium on Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET in the team’s final exhibition match. Admission to the friendly is free. Carolina opens its 2018 regular season slate versus No. 13 Georgetown on Friday, Aug. 24, at the Graveyard at 7 p.m. ET.
