Stone Named SEC Women's Runner of the Week
COLUMBIA, S.C. —-South Carolina cross country’s Heather Stone was named the SEC Women’s Runner of the Week for her third-place performance at the Carolina Challenge, the league office announced today. This is the first time Carolina has earned a Runner of the Week honor since 2013.
The Gamecocks started the 2018-19 campaign this past Saturday at the Sandhill REC Course as Carolina finished third out of 12 teams thanks to Stone’s time of 17:48.8 and her third-place finish. The time was Stone’s personal best for a 5K and was the sixth-fastest in South Carolina history.
Alongside Stone the conference office announced Kentucky’s Kendall Muhammad as Men’s Runner of the Week, Kentucky’s Trevor Warren as Men’s Freshman Runner of the Week and Missouri’s Mikayla Reed as Women’s Freshman of the Week.
Stone and Carolina are back in action in two weeks when the Gamecocks travel to Winthrop for the 35th Invitational at Winthrop on Sept. 15. Continue to check back with gamecocksonline.com for more information on the Gamecocks.
