Gamecocks T-6th at OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational

Scott Stevens T-9th (+1) after even par 70 on Saturday

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — South Carolina carded a second round 288 (+8) at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational on Saturday. The Gamecocks are T-6th with No. 16 Illinois (host school) at 11-over for the tournament heading into Sunday’s final round.

“We’re all a little frustrated with today, but I continue to see some really positive things from this team,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “We need to come out tomorrow with the focus and commitment to finish strong.”

Scoring was tough at Olympia Fields Country Club, as No. 1 Oklahoma State was the only team to shoot under par (278, -2) in round two. The Cowboys lead by eight shots over No. 11 Cal after 36 holes of golf.

Senior Scott Stevens is T-9th at 1-over after pacing Carolina with an even par 70 today. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native had just one bogey. He shot 36 (+1) on the front nine, and 34 (-1) coming into the clubhouse. Stevens is seeking his 16th career top-10 finish.

Freshman Ryan Hall is also T-9th with Stevens at 1-over. He shot 71 (+1) in round two with just two bogeys in his round. Hall, who is in just his second career start, is gunning for his first career top-10 as a Gamecock.

Senior Will Miles also shot 71 (+1) and he sits T-16th at 2-over par for the tournament. He led Carolina with two birdies.

Junior Jamie Wilson and freshman Teddy Tetak each shot 76 (+6) in the second round.

Collin Morikawa of Cal is in the individual lead by one shot at 7-under par after posting a 4-under 66 today. It’s a loaded, deep field with 10 of the 14 teams ranked in the Preseason Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll.

The Gamecocks will be paired with No. 20 Southern Cal and No. 23 UNLV for the final round. Wilson will lead things off again for Carolina on hole one at 9:15 a.m. ET on Sunday.
