Gamecocks Take Team Title In Charleston Classic
COLUMBIA, S.C. —-South Carolina cross country was victorious Saturday at the Charleston Classic as all 12 Carolina runners finished in the top-40 to give the Gamecocks their first team victory of the 2018 season. Heather Stone was the top finisher, as her time of 18:23.5 was good enough for a second-place finish.
Including Stone, the Gamecocks had seven runners post times in the top-12. Brooke Wilson was shortly behind Stone as she finished fourth with a time of 18:54.7. Maryah Nasir finished next with a seventh-place finish thanks to her time of 19:08.0 while Kelsey Larkin finished eighth with a time of 19:09.3.
Kira Jenkins rounded out the top ten with a time of 19:17.8. Emily Crounse was quickly behind with a time of 19:18.8 to finish 11th. Leah Ford was quickly behind in 12th with a time of 19:18.9.
Morgan Lee was up next for the Gamecocks, as her time of 19:48.2 put her in 17th-place. Rachel Hensler rounded out the top-20 with a time of 20:18.7.
Up next came Caitlin Conway with a time of 20:53.6 to finish 30th. Sarah Riser wasn’t too far behind to finish 34thwith a time of 21:00.7 while Sierra Biber closed out the Carolina day with a time of 21:05.3 to finish 36th.
The win was Carolina’s first team victory since winning the Koala Classic last season.
