Jubb Advances to Singles Championship
Paul Jubb defeated Josh Peck (UNC) 7-6 (4), 6-2 on Monday morning to advance into the ITA Carolina Regional Championship match.
CARY, N.C.- Paul Jubb won in straight sets for the fifth time at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships to advance to Tuesday’s singles championship match. Jubb defeated North Carolina’s Josh Peck, 7-6 (4), 6-2 in Monday’s semifinal matchup.
Jubb is the first Gamecock to reach the championship match of the ITA Regionals since Gabriel Friedrich defeated teammate Thomas Mayronne to advance to the 2016 singles championship.
With a win in Monday’s championship, Jubb would be the first Gamecock to earn a regional title since Jan Sandberg in 1986. Jubb finished with seven ranked wins as a sophomore last season and tallied a pair of ranked wins earlier this fall as he advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA All-American Championships.
Jubb has dropped just one set at the ITA Regionals on the way to Tuesday’s championship match.
The Gamecocks will see a break in their fall competition schedule until the Georgia Tech Invite on Nov. 2-4. Select student-athletes that are eligible will compete for ATP points in the Charlottesville ITF Challenger on Oct. 27-29, as well as the Knoxville ITF Challenger on Nov. 2-4.
