Carolina Prepped for Kitty Harrison Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team heads to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the Kitty Harrison Invitational hosted at the Kone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

This will be the Gamecocks’ third tournament of the season after competing at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic and the ITA Carolina Regional Championship.

“We always look forward to playing in the Kitty Harrison tournament,” head coach Kevin Epley said. “It’s a hidden dual match format so it’s a good opportunity to play what feels like real college tennis to round out the fall season. We’ve developed throughout the course of the fall and have been feeling good about how our team is playing right now so we’re looking forward to the event.”

At the Debbie Southern Fall Classic, the No. 20-ranked duo of Ingrid Gamarra Martins and Mia Horvit won their Flight 1 Doubles title after claiming three-straight matches. No. 96 Horvit was also named champion of Flight 3 singles. Paige Cline added to the titles, coming out on top in Flight 2 singles.

Carolina also saw success at the ITA Carolina Regional Championship, competing in both the singles and doubles finals. At the tournament, Megan Davies and Rachel Rohrabacher, who teamed up for only the second time in their collegiate careers, took down the No. 5-ranked team in the nation. In singles, Gamarra Martins advanced to the finals after defeating five-consecutive opponents.

The Gamecocks begin the tournament against James Madison in doubles at 9 a.m., followed by doubles opposite of Penn State at 10:30 a.m. In singles, Carolina faces Old Dominion at 2:30 p.m.
