Gamecocks Prepped for ITA Fall National Championships
No. 27 Paul Jubb and Yancy Dennis will compete in both singles and doubles at this year’s ITA Fall National Championships.
COLUMBIA, S.C.— Reigning ITA Carolina Region Singles Champion Paul Jubb and teammate Yancy Dennis will represent South Carolina men’s tennis this week as the pair competes in both singles and doubles at the ITA Fall National Championships in Surprise, Ariz.
In its second year, replacing the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships is the lone event on the collegiate tennis calendar to feature competitors from all five divisions (NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and JUCO) playing in the same tournament. The tournament will feature a 64-player singles draw and a 32-team doubles draw.
Jubb, the No. 3 seed at the Fall National Championships, has dropped just two sets in his nine singles wins so far this fall. The 27th-ranked player in the nation, Jubb earned a pair of ranked wins at last month’s ITA All-American Championships before reeling off seven straight victories to outlast the field at the ITA Carolina Region Championships.
Jubb and Dennis were slated as the No. 49 doubles tandem in the latest ITA rankings.
Dennis, a senior from Reisterstown, Md., has over 100 combined wins in his collegiate career and advanced to the main draw singles semifinal at this year’s Carolina regional.
This season’s men’s and women’s singles champions of the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships will receive main draw wildcards into a 2019 Oracle Challenger Series tournament.
