Jubb’s Tournament Run Ends in Quarterfinal at ITA Fall National Championships

Paul Jubb survived a third-consecutive three-set battle, defeating No. 96 Zeke Clark (Illinois) but later fell to No. 31 Daniel Cukierman (Southern Cal) in the quarterfinal at the ITA Fall National Championships.

SURPRISE, Ariz. –South Carolina’s No. 27 Paul Jubb gutted out a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over No. 96 Zeke Clark (Illinois) in the round of 16 at the ITA Fall National Championships on Friday at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex. He later saw his tournament run come to an end in the quarterfinal as he fell in three sets to Southern Cal’s Daniel Cukierman.
 
The loss ends a 10-match win streak for Jubb who had two ranked wins on the week and concludes the fall tournament season with a 12-2 singles record.

Jubb came out on fire in his round of 16 matchup, winning the first three games as he cruised to a 6-3 first set.
 
Clark responded with a similar start in the second, going up 3-0 to begin the set. Jubb clawed his way back to even the set at 4-4 before Clark won deuce point to even the match with a 6-4 second.
 
The Gamecocks junior again came out on fire in the third, winning the first six points of the set and jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Jubb quickly closed out a 6-2 third set to clinch a quarterfinal matchup with Southern Cal’s Daniel Cukierman.

Jubb and Cukierman exchanged blows early before Jubb pulled away to take the opening set, 6-4.
 
Jubb took an early lead in the second and was one game from a spot in the next round with a 5-4 lead before Cukierman surged ahead, winning back-to-back games. Jubb fought back from a 15-40 hole to even the set at 6-6.
 
In the second set breaker, Cukierman won the first four points and held for a 7-4 win. Unlike his past three matches, Jubb played the entire third from behind as Cukierman rode an early lead to a 6-2 final set.
