Gamecocks Picked to Finish Fourth in SEC
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team has been selected to finish fourth in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) as announced Wednesday afternoon.
The coaches’ preseason poll picked the Gamecocks after Georgia (1), Vanderbilt (2) and Florida (3). Last season, Carolina went 21-7 overall and 11-2 in SEC play with its only conference losses coming against Florida and Vanderbilt. South Carolina capped its season by advancing to its second-straight Sweet 16 appearance at the NCAA Tournament where it fell to conference foe, Georgia.
Overall, six SEC teams are currently ranked in the Oracle/ITA Division I Women’s Rankings, including No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Georgia, No. 11 Florida, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 14 South Carolina and No. 25 Kentucky. As of this week, Auburn is receiving votes.
The preseason poll is voted on by the women’s tennis head coach at each institution and is based on a 14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 vote.
