Carolina Dominates Home Doubleheader

Carolina defeated both Charlotte and South Carolina State 7-0 on Saturday at the Carolina Tennis Center

COLUMBIA, S.C.- South Carolina men’s tennis (4-1) swept both the Charlotte 49ers (3-4) and South Carolina State Bulldogs (0-4) on Saturday afternoon at the Carolina Tennis Center.

“We’re still learning about our guys and what they’re going to bring in the big moments,” said head coach Josh Goffi. “Today was a good showing but we’ve got a lot of work to do.”

Seventh-ranked Paul Jubb picked up his first win of the spring season with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Luca Keist in the first match while Daniel Rodriuges clinched the team win for the Gamecocks at No. 3 singles.

After another tight doubles point in the second match, South Carolina cruised to the team win by sweeping SC State with five of six singles wins coming in straight sets.

South Carolina 7, Charlotte 0
South Carolina jumped head in the doubles point with a 6-2 win from Joseph Brailovsky and Paul Jubb at No. 3 doubles.  The Gamecocks locked up the doubles point with a 7-5 win at the No. 2 spot.

Jubb controlled his match at No. 1 singles, winning 6-3, 6-2 to put South Carolina ahead 2-0 in the match.  True freshman Jake Beasley took the opening set at No. 6 singles 6-3 and overcame a 4-1 deficit in the second to win 6-4.  Rodrigues won a pair of tight sets to clinch the match for South Carolina, winning 6-4, 7-5 win over Benjamin Wayand.

Raphael Lambling and Yancy Dennis each rebounded from opening set losses to seal up the 7-0 sweep for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina 7, SC State 0
South Carolina cruised to a second sweep against SC State with the Gamecocks winning five of six singles courts in straight sets. 

For a second match in a row, the Gamecocks faced a tight doubles point as the No. 2 pair in Lambling and Rodrigues found themselves down 3-4 with the other two courts having already split.

The Gamecocks cruised during the second round of singles matches, winning courts 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 singles in straight sets.
