Baseball Falls to Clemson in Greenville
The Gamecocks got up 2-0 after one, but Clemson scored in six innings to even the series.
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina baseball team fell to Clemson, 11-5, Saturday afternoon (March 2) at Fluor Field in Greenville. The series is now even heading into the series finale tomorrow afternoon in Columbia.
Carolina jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on TJ Hopkins’ fourth home run of the season. The Tigers tied the game in the top of the second on Michael Green’s run-scoring single to center and a wild pitch and throwing error that allowed Greene to score.
Clemson went up 4-2 in the third as Grayson Byrd doubled to left to score Spencer Hall and David Sharpe singled in Byrd. Carolina answered with a run in the bottom of the third as Jacob Olson scored Noah Campbell with a single to left. Clemson extended its lead in the fourth to 7-3, highlighted by a Hall two-run home run.
George Callil, making his first start of the season, doubled in Quinntin Perez in the fourth to cut the Tiger lead to 7-4. Clemson got that run by in the fifth as Bryce Teodosio homered to the gap in right. Callil drove in his second run of the game in the sixth as his groundout scored Andrew Eyster but that was the only run in the inning after having the bases loaded and no one out.
Clemson ended the scoring with a run in the seventh and two in the eighth on a home run from Logan Davidson.
Dylan Harley took the loss for the Gamecocks, allowing four hits and three earned runs in 2.2 innings of work. He struck out two and walked three. Daniel Lloyd struck out four in 2.1 innings for Carolina.

Clemson got out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the sixth by giving up only one run after a strikeout, groundout and fly out.

- Next year’s neutral-site game will be played at Spirit Communications Park in Columbia.
