Carolina Drops Series At Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. —- No. 16 South Carolina softball dropped the series at No. 17 Arkansas as the Razorbacks scored seven runs in the sixth to earn a 7-4 victory on Saturday at Bogle Park. The Gamecocks led 4-0 heading to the sixth but it wasn’t enough as Arkansas completed the comeback win.

With the victory, Arkansas improved to 3-2 in SEC play while the Gamecocks dropped to 0-5.

South Carolina (20-7, 0-5 SEC) looked as though it would take the game and even the series from the beginning of the first inning as Kenzi Maguire and Mackenzie Boesel started the contest with back-to-back walks before Jana Johns drew a hit by pitch to load the bases with no outs.

Cayla Drotar plated a run in the first but it was the only run Carolina would get in the first as the Gamecocks took a 1-0 lead through one.

The teams traded a scoreless second before Carolina’s offensive came alive in the third with three runs. Boesel started the frame with a solo home run before Alyssa Kumiyama’s two-RBI double extended the lead to 4-0 Carolina.

From there, Arkansas scored seven unanswered runs in the sixth to take the series.

Dixie Raley (5-1) took the loss in the circle.

Boesel, Drotar, Kumiyama, and Jordan Fabian accounted for the four hits on the afternoon for the Gamecocks.
