Carolina Tied For Ninth at Evans Derby Experience

OPELIKA, Ala. – No. 9 South Carolina women’s golf wrapped up the second round of the 2019 Evans Derby Experience in a tie for ninth, carding a 302 (+14) as a team at Saugahatchee Country Club.

“It was a tough day for the Gamecocks,” South Carolina head coach Kalen Anderson. “Emily Price player very well, and Ana [Pelaez] really finished very well today. It was an unusual day for [Lois Kaye Go] and Marion [Veysseyre] who uncharacteristically struggled finishing in the wind. Scoring was difficult, and we have the opportunity to jump up the leaderboard tomorrow with a good day. I expect this group to put the day behind them and rebound nicely tomorrow.”

No. 2 Texas took the lead during the second round in Opelika, finishing day two with a two-round score of 579 (+3). The top five is rounded out by No. 3 Duke (582, +6), No. 8 Arkansas (584, +8), No. 11 Florida State (585, +9) and No. 14 Kent State (590, +14).

Price continued to show why she is one of the top ranked freshmen in the country by posting one of the 12 under-par scores in the second round. She sank three birdies, including back-to-back on the par-4 3rd and the par-3 4th. She made the turn with a score of 35 (-1) and came back to sink another birdie on the par-4 14th before ending the round with an even 36 on the back nine and in a tie for 12th overall.

Veysseyre finished the second round in a tie for 31st, finishing her second round with a 6-over 78. Pelaez’s 13 pars tied the team-high in the second round, she was able to finish the day with a 3-over 75 and in a tie for 42nd.

Carolina’s team score was completed with Lois Kaye Go’s 78. The junior started the day with a birdie, but seven bogeys the rest of the way pushed her back into a tie for 48th. Anita Uwadia finished her second round in a tie for 72nd with a second round 80 while Gaby Amos, who competed as an individual, finished with an 84.

The Gamecocks will get back on the course tomorrow morning for the final round at Saugahatchee Country Club.
