Thiel, Gute Earn Highest Scores of the Day; Named MOPs

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – South Carolina senior Madison Thiel went undefeated in Western in Carolina’s, 13-7, loss to Auburn in the SEC Championship semifinals on Friday afternoon.
 
In Horsemanship, Thiel notched the Gamecocks’ only point, defeating Lauren Diaz, 225.5-221.5, on Whiz. Not only was Thiel’s ride the highest in the event, but also on the day, including Georgia and Texas A&M’s morning competition. For her high-scoring ride, Thiel was honored as the Horsemanship MOP.
 
Also earning MOP honors, junior Caroline Gute was awarded for her Reining performance and score of 215.5. Gute topped Ali Fratessa on Tank, 215.5-0, tallying the highest Reining score of the day.
 
Facing off in Equitation Over Fences, junior Madison Sellman claimed the first point in the event for Carolina with a, 236-22, victory on Jake opposite of McKayla Langmeier. Following, sophomore Tyler Petrie topped Emma Kurtz by 60 points on Sagaro, 220-160.
 
Thiel also won her Reining point, edging out Blair McFarlin on Bullseyed, 212.5-210.5. Sophomore McKenzie Duncan won a point for the Gamecocks after earning a, 207.5-0, victory on Odie opposite of Terri June Granger.
 
In Equitation on the Flat, sophomore Louisa Brackett just beat out Hayley Iannotti, winning, 254-253, on Valducchy.
 
Next, South Carolina takes on Georgia at 10 a.m. ET for third place.
