COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The South Carolina women’s tennis team earned another Southeastern Conference victory after blanking Texas A&M, 4-0, at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

The No. 4 Gamecocks move to 8-1 in SEC play and 13-3 overall after the win. With the loss, the No. 12 Aggies are now 18-4 overall and 6-3 in SEC matches.

“We knew this was going to be a very tough environment to compete in,” head coach Kevin Epley said. “They have a loud crowd and they are a very competitive team. It really was a war out there. I’m proud of our team for hanging tough and stepping up at the end of the match to get the job done.”

In doubles, Rachel Rohrabacher and Paige Cline fell on court two, 6-3, to No. 55 Renee McBryde and Katya Townsend. Finishing almost simultaneously, Kennedy Wicker and Megan Davies topped No. 67 Riley McQuaid and Lucia Quiterio, 6-4, at the No. 3 position.

At the top spot for Carolina, No. 1-ranked Ingrid Martins and Mia Horvit downed No. 63 Tatiana Makarova and Jayci Goldsmith, 6-3, clinching the doubles point for their team.

Transitioning into singles, No. 7 Martins took a quick first set, 6-0, against No. 50 Townsend on court one. In the second set, Martins went up, 3-1, and never looked back, winning her match, 6-0, 6-2, and putting the Gamecocks up, 2-0.

Competing against McBryde at the No. 4 position, Megan Davies topped her Aggie opponent in identical sets, 6-3, 6-3, extending Carolina’s lead, 3-0.

Silvia Chinellato dropped her first set, 6-4, against McQuaid on court five. Finding her groove, Chinellato claimed her second set, 6-3, forcing a third. In the final set, Chinellato held a, 5-0, lead over McQuiad before the Aggie took one game, bringing it to 5-1. Fighting for the clinch, Chinellato cruised through her final game, ultimately winning her match, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, and ending the match, 4-0, in favor of South Carolina.
