Gamecocks Fall in Finale to Auburn
WACO, Texas – The South Carolina Equitation on the Flat team fell in a heartbreaker, 4-0, to Auburn in the championship round on Saturday evening at the Extraco Events Center.
This week at the NCEA Championships, the Gamecocks had their Horsemanship and Reining teams advance to the semifinals and Equitation on the Flat ride in the championship round.
“I can’t say how proud I am of how well these girls have done this week,” head coach Boo Major said. “I think they’ve been fantastic. Our competition (Saturday) didn’t go the way we wanted it to. The four girls who rode on the flat rode beautifully; they rode well. Hats off to Auburn, they have fantastic riders and did a great job (Saturday).”
In the first ride, Madison Brayman was not able to top Caitlin Boyle, falling on Marquee, 247-234. Up next, Ashton Alexander had the winning ride against Madison Sellman on Vinnie, 241-235. Riding close, Lizzie van der Walde was within four of Taylor St. Jacques atop Lina, dropping her point, 228-224. Ending the event, Grady Lyman fell to Hayley Iannotti on Swank, 241-227.
Carolina finishes out the season with a 6-9 overall record and a 1-5 mark against SEC opponents.
