Gamecocks Up to No. 17 in ITA Team Rankings

Carolina had two doubles pairs and two singles players in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings.

COLUMBIA, S.C.– South Carolina men’s tennis (17-9) climbed to a season-high ranking at No. 17 in this week’s Oracle ITA Team Rankings following the Gamecocks’ run to the SEC Tournament semifinals last week. Carolina had two doubles pairs in the latest doubles rankings while fourth-ranked Paul Jubb moved back into a tie for the highest singles ranking in team history.

Jubb and teammate Raphael Lambling improved to No. 49, in the latest doubles rankings while Lambling and fellow true freshman Daniel Rodrigues reached No. 56 in this week’s rankings.

Jubb reaches No. 4 (tied for the highest singles ranking in program history) in the ITA Top-125 for the second time this season after posting a 2-1 record at the SEC Tournament last week, falling only to second-ranked Nuno Borges of Mississippi State in three sets.  Jubb is 17-4 this season against the ITA Top 125 and owns a 19-2 record at the No. 1 singles spot for South Carolina this season.

Rodrigues, No. 92 in this week’s singles rankings, was named to the SEC All-Tournament Team this past Sunday after posting three-set wins over No. 74 Hady Habib (Texas A&M) and No. 61 Giovanni Oradini (Mississippi State).  Rodrigues is tied for the team lead in wins with a 31-10 overall record and has a 17-7 record during the spring playing primarily No. 2 singles for South Carolina.

The 17th-ranked Gamecocks sit just on the edge of possible hosting position for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament, which will be played on the weekend of May 4-5.  The 2019 NCAA Tournament Selection Show will air on Monday, April 29, at 6 p.m. ET.

The 2019 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will be hosted in Orlando, Fla., at the USTA National Campus on May 20-25.
