Schaub Hired as Women’s Tennis Associate Head Coach
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis head coach Kevin Epley has announced the hiring of Ty Schaub as Associate Head Coach for the Gamecocks.
Schaub, a native of Lexington, Ohio, comes to Carolina from the University of Tennessee where he served as the assistant coach with women’s program. This season, Schaub was named the ITA Ohio Valley Region Assistant Coach of the Year.
“I could not be more excited about this opportunity to coach here at South Carolina,” Schaub said. “Since I started coaching in the SEC, this is a program that I have gotten very familiar with and I have always been so impressed with how the team competes and what they have accomplished. I appreciate Kevin bringing me on board and I am pumped to help this program keep developing, achieve new heights and chase championships.”
Schaub spent three years with Tennessee, amassing a 57-32 overall record during his stint. As a student-athlete at Ohio State, Schaub’s teams finished with a 129-8 record and claimed four Big Ten Conference Championships. He served as the team captain in 2009 when the Buckeyes were No. 1 in the country and reached the NCAA Tournament Finals.
“Ty has proven himself to be one of the premier assistant coaches out there,” Epley said. “He will bring a lot of experience and enthusiasm to the program. He and Alison (Ojeda, Tennessee women’s head coach) have done a terrific job at Tennesse over the past few season and we are excited that Ty will help the Gamecocks continue to build a championship culture.”
After a decorated college career, Schaub assisted at Cornell (2009-10), Pennsylvania (2011-14), Iowa (2014-15) and San Diego (2015-16) before his gig with the Volunteers. During his time with Penn, he helped bring in three top-25 classes.
At Iowa, Schaub helped the Hawkeyes reach their highest ranking in program history at No. 42. He also coached Matt Hagan and Dominic Patrick to a Big Ten Doubles Championship, the second for Iowa. Finding more success, Schaub assisted in San Diego’s West Coast Conference Championship.
Schaub graduated with a degree in Communications with a focus in Analysis and Practices. During his 2006-07 season, he was named a Big Ten Conference Men’s Tennis Sportsmanship Award Winner.
