Patten Invited to England's Senior National Team Training Camp
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Football Association (The FA) announced Tuesday that South Carolina junior defender Anna Patten has been named to the 25-player squad for England’s Senior National Team international friendlies with Belgium and Norway.
“I feel so honored to be selected to this,” Patten said. “To be able to play with players that I looked up to when I was growing up, and be actually selected to play with our senior team, is really what I’ve been working towards since I was a child. Obviously being able to watch them at the World Cup and then be with them now in this next camp is just going to be an amazing experience, and I am just really looking forward to it and learning from them.”
Patten, a South Carolina newcomer in 2019, was named as one of the nine defenders for the Lionesses. The training camp begins on Aug. 25 with England taking on Belgium (Aug. 29) and Norway (Sept. 3) before Patten is available to return to the Gamecocks after England’s match against Norway.
A mainstay in England’s Youth National teams, Patten has been a part of U15, U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels, playing over 40 matches for England. The junior from Harpenden, England, joined the Gamecocks after two seasons with Florida State, where she was a part of the 2018 NCAA National Championship.
The Gamecocks will open up the regular season against No. 21 NC State on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. on SEC Network. For more information on the Gamecocks, continue to check back with gamecocksonline.com.
