  • The Gamecocks are 1-0 all-time against Dayton with last season’s 65-55 victory at Colonial Life Arena.
  • In eight seasons at Temple, Dawn Staley was 8-3 against the Flyers, including a 3-2 record in Dayton.
  • Both teams have been dominant on the glass so far this season with the Gamecocks ranked ninth in the nation in rebounds per game (53.5) and the Flyers coming in at 15th in the country (52.5).

GAMECOCK NOTABLES

  • South Carolina’s defensive effort at #4/5 Maryland was just the disruptive style that Staley looks for her long, versatile, athletic roster to execute throughout the season. The Gamecocks built their 10-point halftime lead on the back of a second quarter that saw the Terrapins score just nine points. An effort that limited Preseason All-American Kaila Charles to just 11 points in the game held her scoreless and to just one rebound during the pivotal 10-minute period.
  • The Gamecocks have allowed opponents to shoot just 25.9 percent from the field, which leads the SEC and ranks 14th in the nation.
  • South Carolina freshman Aliyah Boston earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after an opening week that ended with her leading the nation in blocks per game (7.5) after opening the stretch with the first triple-double in a college debut in NCAA Div. I women’s basketball history.
  • Four of South Carolina’s five starters average double-figure points so far this season, led by Boston’s 13.0 points per game. Senior Tyasha Harris is second on the team and headlines the guard corps with 12.0 points per game.
  • The Gamecocks’ size and ability to attack the paint have sent them to the free throw line 62 times through two games this season, and their 46 made free throws rank seventh in the nation.  Freshman Brea Beal leads the charge, ranking second in the SEC with 14 free throw attempts.
  • Six Gamecocks are shooting over 50.0 percent from the field so far this season, led by junior guard/forward LeLe Grissett’s 85.7 percent (6-of-7) accuracy. Of the Gamecocks with double-digit field goal attempts, Boston leads the way at 50.0 percent (9-of-18).
