Gamecocks Place in Top-15; Post Strong Finishes at NCAA Regional

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The South Carolina women’s cross country team finished 15th at the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday at Panorama Farms, the team’s highest finish since assistant coach Andrew Allden’s first year at Carolina in 2013.

The Gamecocks finished 14th in 2013, on the same 6K course at Panorama Farms, featuring six large hills.

Leading South Carolina across the line, Anna Kathryn Stoddard finished first with a time of 21:16.5. After missing the SEC Championships, Heather Stone came back with a strong No. 2 finish for the Gamecocks at 21:19.3.

Hannah Twine had a big day on the course, besting her previous PR (21:54.7) by seven seconds with a time of 21:47.9.

Finishing next for the Gamecocks, Hillary Neely posted a time of 22:29.4, followed by Maryah Nasir in fifth with a 22:56.6.

“We had three great runs up front,” Allden said. “Anna Kathryn Stoddard, Heather Stone and Hannah Twine had really great days for us. We had very solid performances out of our top five and put together a good race (Friday).

“Top-15 in the region, which is what I’ve been telling everyone this year is that we’re a top-15 team, so to actually achieve that at the end of the day was very pleasant.”
