Rodrigues Named SEC Freshman of the Week
Daniel Rodrigues (19-4) earned his first weekly conference award following his fourth-consecutive singles win in straight sets.
COLUMBIA, S.C.- South Carolina men’s tennis true freshman, Daniel Rodrigues, was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday.
Rodrigues, a native of Funchal Portugal, won his fourth-consecutive singles match in straight sets to help the Gamecocks take down No. 21 NC State on the road this past Saturday.
One of seven freshmen on the Gamecocks’ 2018-19 roster, Rodrigues was elevated to the No. 2 singles position in Saturday’s win over NC State and is tied for the team lead with 19 singles wins on the year.
Rodrigues cracked the ITA Top-125 for the first time in his career, coming in at No. 110 in last week’s singles rankings.
The Gamecocks look to extend an active four-match win streak this weekend as it hosts in-state rival Clemson on Friday beginning at 3 p.m.
