No. 15 Gamecocks Host No. 20T Texas Tech

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 15-ranked South Carolina women’s tennis team hosts its first ranked matchup of the season when it takes on No. 20T Texas Tech on Sunday at 10 a.m., at the Carolina Tennis Center.
 
Carolina (3-1, 0-0 SEC) has won three-straight matches with wins over Cal (4-1), Wake Forest (4-0) and Clemson (6-1). In each of their four matches, the Gamecocks have taken the doubles point, gaining an early lead.
 
“Texas Tech is a great team and we look forward to the opportunity to compete against them on our home courts,” head coach Kevin Epley said. “We expect it to be very competitive on every court.”
 
Sophomore Silvia Chinellato is currently on a five-match win streak, including two wins in the dual season. Junior and No. 69-ranked Mia Horvit has won three matches in-a-row and owns as an overall record of 10-3.
 
In doubles, the Gamecocks bring momentum with their two ranked doubles teams. First, Horvit and Senior Ingrid Gamarra Martins are ranked at No. 11 in the country and hold a 12-2 overall mark. Sophomore Megan Davies and senior Rachel Rohrabacher follow suit at No. 23. The duo has a record of 10-6 and an undefeated mark, 2-0, against nationally ranked opponents.
 
Sunday’s match marks the first time in program history that South Carolina and Texas Tech will meet on the court. The Red Raiders (3-1, 0-0 Big 12) are coming off a close, 4-3, opposite of No. 14 NC State on Friday, Feb. 3.
 
Texas Tech has one ranked singles player in Felicity Maltby at No. 52. On the doubles side, Maltby and partner Nell Miller sit at No. 38 in the poll.
