Lambling Named SEC Freshman of the Week

Raphael Lambling has won 15-consecutive singles matches with a pair of wins at No. 4 singles for the Gamecocks last weekend.

COLUMBIA, S.C.- South Carolina men’s tennis true freshman, Raphael Lambling, was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday.  Lambling is the second Gamecock freshman in row to win the award after Daniel Rodrigues was recognized by the conference last week.

Lambling, a native of Paris, France, defeated Clemson’s Yizhou Liu 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 to clinch the Gamecocks’ 4-3 win on Friday over in-state rival Clemson.  Lambling followed up with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win over Georgia Tech’s No. 69 Cole Gromley.

One of seven freshmen on the Gamecocks 2019 roster, Lambling has gone a perfect 7-0 in dual matches to begin the spring and is 19-3 overall in his first season at Carolina.

Lambling cracked the ITA Top-125 for the first time in his career back on Feb. 6, coming in at No. 114 in the nation and jumped up to No. 95 in this week’s rankings.

The Gamecocks look to extend an active six-match win streak this weekend as it hosts Georgia State on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
