Gravett Named to 2019 SEC Community Service Team

Redshirt senior guard a first time honoree on the men's basketball service squad

BRIMINGHAM, Ala. – Redshirt senior guard Hassani Gravett was named to the 2019 SEC Men’s Basketball Community Service Team the league announced Monday afternoon. He is a first-time honoree.
 
Gravett has been very active in community outreach projects throughout his career in Garnet and Black. The Villa Rica, Ga., native has spent time with military members and their families at Fort Jackson in Columbia and the Ray Tanner Home Run 5K. He also volunteered with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, the City of Columbia, Special Olympics and the Epworth Children’s Home through the team’s 8K in 8 Days initiative.
 
During his senior season, Gravett has spent time at the Palmetto Children’s Hospital, worked with the Salvation Army, worked with youth on the fundamentals of basketball at St. Andrews, Polo Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Parks with the City of Columbia. He also helped out at a Wounded Warriors event in the fall.
 
On the court, Gravett has had the best season of his career averaging 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Primarily playing in a sixth man role, he helped lead the Gamecocks to an 11-7 conference record and a fourth-place finish in the SEC. In conference action, Gravett averaged 12.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest. His 43 3s in league action T-4th and his 43.9 percent 3-point FG percentage was among league leaders.  
 
This marks the 21st year for the SEC Community Service Team for men’s basketball as well as for women’s basketball. All 21 league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men’s and women’s sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.
