Gamecocks Fall at 22nd-ranked Tennessee

Carolina fell 5-2 on the road at No. 22 Tennessee in the first of two weekend road matches.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.— South Carolina men’s tennis (11-4) dropped its first of two weekend road matches, falling 5-2 at 22nd-ranked Tennessee Friday at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
 
12th-ranked Paul Jubb defeated his 10th nationally ranked opponent this season, taking out No. 59 Timo Stodder, 6-4, 6-3 for his ninth win in ten matches.
 
Jubb’s win came in the aftermath of a narrow Carolina loss in the doubles point, just its fifth dropped doubles point this season.
 
DOUBLES:
The Gamecocks dropped the doubles point for just the fifth time this season, giving up a 6-1 loss at the No. 1 spot to start the doubles portion of the match.
 
Carolina fought back at the No. 2 spot, breaking to even the match at 5-5.  Tennessee used another wave of momentum, however, to finish off the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches at 7-5.

SINGLES:
Jubb fell behind a break early in his match against No. 59 Stodder, but bounced back to win his first set 6-4. One of three Gamecocks to take the first set on Friday night, Jubb was the only Carolina victory on the night, however, as the Volunteers clinched the team win with wins at Nos. 3, 5 and 6 singles.
