No. 4 Carolina Falls to No. 7 Georgia, 13-7

BISHOP, Ga. – South Carolina senior Madison Thiel went undefeated on the day with a Horsemanship and Reining win in Carolina’s, 13-7, loss to Georgia at the Equestrian Complex on Saturday afternoon.

After the final SEC meet of the regular season, the Gamecocks are now 5-6 overall and 1-5 in the SEC. The Bulldogs moved to an overall mark of 4-5 and 3-2 in SEC competitions.

In Horsemanship, Thiel rode to a 74 atop Colby, defeating Graysen Stroud, 74-70. Thiel was victorious in her second ride of the day after downing Courtney Blumer, 71-68, on Pixi.

South Carolina took two MOPs on the day. Quinn Brandt was recognized for the highest score in Horsemanship, 75.5, good enough for a three-point win against Taylor Burgess, 75.5-72.5. Madison Brayman earned the honors after a, 79-74, victory in Equitation on the Flat over Madison Newman on CJ.

“Things didn’t go our way (Saturday),” head coach Boo Major said. “We rode better this weekend as a whole but still didn’t perform as well as we are capable. Mistakes keep getting us. We will regroup and get ready to honor our seniors next weekend in our last home meet and regular-season competition.”

Competing in Equitation Over Fences, Madison Sellman took the lone point for South Carolina with a, 83-82, victory opposite of Ali Tritschler on Snookie.

Scoring the second point in Equitation on the Flat, Lizzie van der Walde claimed the highest score of the event, topping Tritschler with George, 85-83.

Jordan Scott earned the first Reining point for South Carolina with her, 68.5-66, win on Odie against Julia Spreng.

The Gamecocks are back in action at home one last time this season. Carolina hosts Delaware State at 1 p.m. on March 8. The meet will also serve as senior day for the Gamecocks.
