Gamecocks End Day Two of Regionals T10

Cle Elum, Wash. – No. 9 South Carolina women’s golf completed the second round of the 2019 NCAA Cle Elum Regional in a tie for 10th. Carolina shot 8-over par (296) and is six strokes behind the top-six cut line to advance to the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville later this month.

“We took advantage of the scoring opportunities on our front nine,” South Carolina head coach Kalen Anderson said. “The wind was gusting and swirling, making our back nine play extremely difficult. The team played tough. We’re within striking distance of the top six tomorrow, and are prepared for a great day.”

Leading the current top six is No. 1 Southern California. They’ll head into the final day with a 12-stroke lead over second place, the host, No. 19 Washington. No. 29 San Jose State and No. 8 Arkansas are just one stroke apart for third and fourth. No. 16 Northwestern sits in fifth at 10-over followed by Ohio State and No. 49 UCF in a tie for sixth at 12-over.

Starting on hole No. 10, the Gamecocks saw a red-hot start from junior Ana Pelaez. She posted a 4-under 32 on the back nine, including an eagle on the par-5 15th. She followed her eagle with back-to-back birdies and turned to the front nine with momentum. On the front the junior couldn’t find any birdies, and settled for a 1-under 71 to end in a tie for 22nd after day two.

Freshman Emily Price followed up her even 72 on day one with a 3-over 75 in the second round. The rookie was unable to connect on a birdie putt in her round and will enter the final day of the regional in a tie for 22nd.

For Lois Kaye Go her birdie on the par-5 18th helped her post a 2-over 74 in the second round. The junior ended the back nine even, but couldn’t find the range on the front nine and ended day two in a tie for 42nd.

Anita Uwadia matched Pelaez with three birdies on the back nine. The birdies helped Uwadia bounce back from a tough par-4 14th where she carded a triple bogey. The ended the back nine even, and went on to finish the round with a 4-over 76. Marion Veysseyre was the Gamecocks’ final member, finishing with an 82.
