Gamecocks Best Charlotte, Improve to 3-0

CHARLOTTE, N.C.— The 16th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks continued their winning ways, knocking off Charlotte 6-1. Carolina improved to 3-0 on the young season, dropping just a single individual match in their first three contests this season.

The Gamecocks fought out a pair of doubles wins against the 49ers to take the early lead in the match. After falling behind 2-3, the 39th-ranked pair of Raphael Lambling and Daniel Rodrigues battled back with a clutch forehand down the line by Lambling reclaiming their service break. After knotting it up at 3-3, the sophomore duo didn’t look back, powering past Charlotte 6-4 to secure the doubles point.

In singles, the Gamecocks dominated, winning five points. Senior Paul Jubb made his singles season debut with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot to set the tone for the Gamecocks. Rodrigues followed suit with his own 6-2, 6-1 win, and junior Thomas Brown clinched the win from the No. 6 spot with a decisive 6-2, 6-3 victory.

QUOTABLE HEAD COACH Josh Goffi:
“I thought today was good, we came into a different environment, much faster courts than we are used to, but I like that. It was just another situation that guys had to overcome, they were a little bit behind the ball today, but they competed well and got themselves playing pretty good tennis by the end.”

Up Next for the Gamecocks
Carolina is back in action next week in Atlanta, playing in the Georgia Tech MLK Event from Saturday to Monday.
