Petrie Has Career Day as Gamecocks Roll

Box Score

Columbia, S.C. – Junior Tyler Petrie earned Most Outstanding Player honors as the No. 5 Gamecocks got the second half of their season started on the right foot with a 7-2 jumping seat win over the Sweet Briar Vixens on Friday at OneWood Farm.

After dropping the first fences point of the day to Sweet Briar’s Katie Balding, the fences M.O.P. of the meet, Carolina locked in and took over the competition. Junior Louisa Brackett won Carolina’s first point with her 79-point ride on Redford, while freshman Jordan Allen gave the Gamecocks the lead with her 80 on Tattoo. Sophomore Grady Lyman celebrated her birthday in spectacular fashion by notching the third fences point with her 82 on Batman, and Petrie put a bow on things with her 76-point ride on Joe to give Carolina a 4-1 fences win.

On the flat junior Billi Brandner led off with a 75-point ride on Glen to push the Carolina lead. Sophomore Caroline Bald rode to a 69 on Kenny, tying her Sweet Briar competitor. Brackett hit the ring next and earned her second point of the day with her 71 on Quentin, setting up Petrie to bring the real thunder. The Medina, Ohio native strolled into the ring on Cal and notched a career best flat score of 87, earning the first M.O.P. on the flat of her career, and the second M.O.P. honor for her this season. Sweet Briar’s Sophie Kane took the final flat point, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Garnet and Black from taking home the 7-2 win.
