Both Track Teams Sit in Top-20 in Latest USTFCCCA Rankings
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Both the University of South Carolina women and men’s track & field team sit in the top-20 for the first time this season in the U.S. Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national computer rankings, it was announced Monday. The women’s program sits at No. 16 while the men’s team reached No. 20 this week.
Note: the USTFCCCA released changes to the rankings on Feb. 4 that moved the Gamecocks from No. 17 to No. 16 in the women’s rankings and from No. 18 to No. 20 in the men’s rankings.
The men’s team jumped 14 spots between week one and week two, the second-highest jump among teams in the top 25. The Gamecock men feature five student-athletes that contribute to their ranking while the women have eight student-athletes that qualify for the ranking.
The Carolina women have finished in the top-25 in each of the past four indoor seasons, including a 7th-place result at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships while the men finished 20th last season.
The USTFCCCA’s rankings are compiled using each returning athlete’s top collegiate marks from the 2019 season. In certain cases, collegiate marks from before 2019 are applied, and transfers are eligible with a qualifying junior college or international mark. For a full list of the rankings, click here.
