Shelton Named SEC Freshman of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina women’s tennis freshman Emma Shelton has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, coming off of the first ranked win of her collegiate career.
On Sunday, Feb. 23, Shelton defeated No. 13 Oklahoma State’s No. 56-ranked Ayumi Miyamoto in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, at the No. 3 position.
Later on in the day, Shelton picked up another singles win, defeating Somer Dalla-Bona of Coastal Carolina on court two, 6-2, 6-1. She also nabbed a doubles victory with Kendall Couch, topping Flaminia Scara and Alexa Tiefel, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot.
With her singles sweep on Sunday, Shelton now holds a perfect dual match record at 8-0. She is 3-0 on court three, 4-0 on two and 1-0 at the No. 2 position.
