Schaefer Named NCEA Fences Rider of the Month
Waco, Texas – After a 4-0 month where she took Most Outstanding Honors three times, freshman Madeline Schaefer has been named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Fences Rider of the Month for February, officials announced Wednesday.
Schaefer opened the month with an 86-74 win over South Dakota State’s Jessica Martinez to earn her first M.O.P. of the month. She followed that up with a clutch 80-74 win against Texas A&M’s Haley Redifer to help the Gamecocks defeat the Aggies. In the home finale Shaefer posted an 89-86 win over Georgia’s Rachel McMullen to claim her second M.O.P. in the month. The freshman proved that she wasn’t just in her element in Columbia to end the month with an 86-84 win over Auburn star McKayla Langmeier to take her third M.O.P. of the month and finish February with a flawless 4-0 record.
The Westminster, Md. native has a total of four M.O.P. wins this season and enters the regular season finale with a 6-2-0 record.
The Gamecocks wrap up their regular season with a trip to Delaware State this week. The clash with the Hornets is set to begin a 9 a.m. on Friday, March 6 in Dover.
