Chinellato Named to SEC Women's Tennis Community Service Team
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Senior Silvia Chinellato was named to the SEC Women’s Tennis Community Service Team as announced by the conference office Wednesday morning.
During the 2019-20 academic year, Chinellato worked with Heritage Christian Middle School in Lexington teaching tennis to its students and increasing their knowledge of athletics. She organized team and individual competitions and taught lessons designed to ensure students enjoyed a competitive environment while also learning to communicate with each other properly.
In addition, Chinellato participated in student-led conferences at Meadowfield Elementary School in Columbia. During the sessions, students spoke with her about their homework and assignments, and Chinellato would help them improve their work. Chinellato created a comfortable learning environment so students felt at ease working with her.
Other volunteer activities in which Chinellato participated focused primarily on the health of the community. She worked in the Sustainable Carolina Garden at Green Quad in the University of South Carolina’s housing department. She picked up invasive weeds, divided plastic from paper trash for recycling purposes, and she worked in the greenhouse learning how to grow fruits and vegetables in a sustainable way, saving space and water. Chinellato also participated in community service activities for the Salvation Army Family Store in Columbia and donated items to the organization.
