Roussin-Bouchard Named First Team WGCA All-American
Columbia, S.C. – The honors continue to roll in for South Carolina women’s golf freshman Pauline Roussin-Bouchard, this time earning a spot on the Women’s Golf Coaches Association First Team All-American squad, WGCA officials announced on Tuesday.
The French phenom made waves all year for the Gamecocks, finishing her season with the best scoring average for a freshman in program history (71.27). Roussin-Bouchard shattered multiple records at the Windy City Collegiate Classic, notching the lowest freshman 54-hole score (205) and the lowest 18-hole score (65) on her way to medalist honors for the tournament. Her 71.27 season scoring average is the second lowest in team history, just behind Ainhoa Olarra’s 71.00 from the 2017-18 season.
In addition to her first-place finish at the Windy City Collegiate Classic, Roussin-Bouchard tied for third at the Landfall Tradition and took third place at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational, giving her three top-three finishes, and four top-10 finishes with her 10th place finish at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. Roussin-Bouchard also made the final watch list for the ANNIKA Award, presented by Stifel, with the finalist and winner set to be announced in May.
“Pauline’s year was tremendous and well-deserved,” head coach Kalen Anderson said. “I am very proud of and happy for Pauline, as her organization and work ethic are second to none. Not only has Pauline earned First Team All-American honors and broken Gamecock records, but she has also elevated herself to the No. 1 ranked female amateur golfer in the world (WAGR). Most importantly, Pauline is an incredible teammate and impressive individual both on and off the golf course.”
Roussin-Bouchard becomes the fourth Gamecock to earn First Team All-America honors under Anderson, and the 29th overall All-America honoree with Anderson at the helm. The Carqueiranne, France native is the first freshman to earn First Team All-America honors for the program.
The No. 1 ranked amateur in the world; Roussin-Bouchard is set to participate in the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup this December and will play in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in 2021 after the cancellation of the 2020 edition of the tournament.
