Gamecocks Set for Palmetto Series

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team hosts in-state rival Clemson on Thursday at 2 p.m. ET at the Carolina Tennis Center.

Heading into the match, the No. 25 Gamecocks (1-2) lead the Tigers (5-0) in the overall series by one, 28-27. Carolina has won the past five matchups between the rivals, most recently topping Clemson, 6-1, last season.

South Carolina

Freshman Emma Shelton, who plays at the No. 4 position, is undefeated for the Gamecocks, holding a 3-0 record so far into the dual-match season. Also perfect this spring is the doubles tandem of Silvia Chinellato and Megan Davies. The duo is 2-0 together in duals at the No. 2 position.

In singles, Carolina has two ranked individuals in No. 27-ranked Mia Horvit and No. 28 Davies. The Gamecocks are looking to bounce back after dropping a hard-fought battle with Georgia Tech, 4-1, in a match that was closer than what the final score reflected.

Clemson

The Tigers have five wins on the season, topping Presbyterian (7-0), North Carolina A&T (7-0), College of Charleston (6-1), Charlotte (5-2) and Kennesaw State (7-0).

Clemson’s roster has one ranked doubles team in the No. 56 pair of Eleni Louka and Syndey Riley. The two have not competed together this spring but own a 4-2 mark from the fall season.

Entrance is free to all fans at the Carolina Tennis Center.
