Black Wins Slugfest to Take 2-0 World Series Lead
The Black team had four home runs on the day in a 13-6 win over Garnet to take a 2-0 lead.
COLUMBIA – The Black team had four home runs on the day, part of an 11-hit performance in a 13-6 victory over Garnet in game two of the 2020 Garnet and Black World Series to take a 2-0 series lead Thursday afternoon (Oct. 29) at Founders Park.
There were five home runs in the game as Brandon Fields had a two-run blast in the fourth for Garnet. Wes Clarke also had a two-run shot in the fourth for Black while Andrew Eyster, Brennan Milone and Braylen Wimmer each had home runs in the sixth frame.
For the Black team, Eyster had four RBI on a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored. He joined Noah Myers and Clarke with two hits in the contest. Eight of the nine starters for Black had at least one hit in the game.
For Garnet, Joe Satterfield was a perfect 3-for-3 while Fields had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. David Mendham also was 2-for-3 with a double.
On the mound, Josiah Sightler pitched two perfect innings in relief for Team Black with three strikeouts to pick up the save. Cade Austin earned the win, while Travis Luensmann was tagged with the loss. Brannon Jordan started for the Garnet team and did not allow a hit with four strikeouts in two innings of work.
Game three of the Garnet and Black World Series will take place Friday night (Oct. 30) at 6 p.m. at Founders Park. The game will be streamed on Facebook Live.
