Gamecocks Ready for 2020 SEC Championships
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s cross country team is headed to Baton Rouge, La., for the 2020 SEC XC Championships held at the U Club Practice Course on Friday at 10:05 a.m. on the SEC Network.
Carolina has 12 student-athletes traveling for the race, including: Kathleen Abrams, Savannah Bowers, Hannah Cella, Hope Dominique, Katerina Hendrix, Rachel Hensler, Kira Jenkins, Sarah Riser, Cailin Saylor, Heather Stone, Hannah Twine and Brooke Wilson.
Last time out, it was Stone who finished 10th at the UAB Blazer Classic with a 6K time of 21:30.21, giving her two top-10 finishes in Carolina’s two meets before the SEC Championships. Wilson, Hensler and Dominique all finished in the top 20 as the Gamecocks topped Auburn at the meet. Twine, one of the Carolina captains, returns to the Gamecocks lineup after missing the Blazer Classic, the race in Baton Rogue will be her first 6K race of the short 2020 campaign.
The women’s 6K race is scheduled for a 10:05 a.m. ET start, while the men’s 8K race will begin at 11 a.m. ET. An awards ceremony will follow the men’s race. Admission to the 2020 SEC Cross Championships is free and open to the public. All fans in attendance will be required to wear face masks, and physical distancing will be mandatory. This marks the fourth time LSU has served as host of the SEC Cross Country Championships and the first time since 2006.
Those who finish in the top-seven earn first-team honors, while the 8th-14th finishers will take a spot on the second team. The All-Freshman team consists of the top seven freshman (true or redshirt) finishers.
